Story 1

1 - I am a former street boy living in D4K. I have come from the street far away in Mount Kenya region. I was brought here by a good Samaritan. We are three kids in our family. I am the second born, being the second born I am also the only boy in the family and I have to be active through this crazy world.
I think the reason of staying in D4K is simple but hard for the people you stay with, particularly the first time you come to D4K addicted to drugs, it is hard to leave the drugs alone. You have to change.

I appreciate the stay in D4K, when I am here I feel at home. When I clear my studies I would like to be a lawyer to defend the poor people from the rich ones. I will support my sisters, and because our mother passed away I don’t keep it in mind, but I will always remember what she told me: always leave the place better than you found it. That what I am trying to do in D4K and at school. I thank D4K for taking of me.

Story 2

2 – I come from a family of three. I am the second born. I was born in east province where my grandparents used to stay. My mother decided to come in Nairobi where the rest of the family was living. After staying at home for some time she decided to rent a house which was a single roomed. There my mother started a business for selling alcohol, which was not an illegal brewery at that time. She continued with the business for some years, but myself I was not happy because for me it was not a good business. Every time when the police found her drunk they could arrest her for some days. We advised her about the issue and immediately she stopped selling alcohol. She went to look for employment in Karen where she got a job for planting and harvesting French beans. By doing so we lived happy life because we got something to eat every single day.
Later she took us to school with my little sister where we went in pre-unit.

Life at school was not all that friendly to me but as time passed by we become great friends. The school was a christian environment, we were living with Salessian sisters from Spain and the rest of the countries. In 1996 my mother went to stay with another man who I took as my stepfather because my father had divorced with my mother for some years. We were staying together with the man and he was friendly to us, and so we felt very glad to live with him.
In 2003 my mother for the second time engaged in alcohol taking, she used to come home late at night when she was drunk. The man could keep warning her for some several times but my mother could not hear. Some times she was chased away and slept outside in the cold. She continued with the same kind of behavior.

One day when she came home when drunk she fight with the man and unfortunately she was knocked on one block toward her mouth, and her one tooth broke and another one falled down. In the process of escaping she hurt her knee and she stayed in bed for some weeks. When she was well they went to stay in another place where I could not come and they left me alone in the house. I had a lot of problems which come to me because I slept without food and in the morning I went to school without breakfast. When the problem became worst I talked to my sister who lived around the place. She did not know what to do, but she remembered that my help could come from D4K, and truly it come. I was admitted in the centre by Michael Mungai in 2003 when I was eleven years old
